about cynthia martyn, creative director
As one of Canada’s most respected event professionals, Cynthia has developed a reputation for designing & planning a wide range of stunning & sophisticated parties, events and weddings across Canada, the U.S. and Europe. Since launching her full-service event consultancy in 2004, Cynthia has become a regular contributing expert for numerous publications both online and in print, and has enjoyed features on television programming such as the popular Slice Network production “Rich Bride, Poor Bride”, “The Smart Woman Survival Guide”, the “Steven and Chris Show” amongst many others.
After graduating from the University of Western Ontario, Cynthia’s career began in the hustle and bustle of Canada’s financial epicentre – Bay Street. With a background in finance & investment trading, but feeling creatively unfulfilled, she made the leap into the special events division at one of Canada’s largest banks in 2000. For four years she planned and coordinated numerous events at the corporate level including conferences, sporting events, holiday parties, annual meetings, closing dinners and teambuilding getaways. While Cynthia’s corporate event planning experience was essential in shaping her style as a planner, she has discovered that the beauty and design challenges offered within the realm of weddings to be an area where she truly shines.
This love of weddings led Cynthia to launch a charming retail bridal boutique in downtown Toronto in 2009. Sash & Bustle is a fresh approach to bridal apparel retailing, carrying a wide range of bridal, bridal alternative and bridesmaid collections and shares space with her busy wedding planning & design office located in the Leslieville area of downtown Toronto.
Cynthia is an avid traveller, making yearly visits to her favourite destinations New York and Paris to scout new event trends and source props, as well as further afield to soak up the culture and get inspired for her clients.
